US President Donald Trump said that the agreement between the US and Iran is expected to be signed within 48 hours, while emphasizing that Tehran may have ballistic missiles, but not nuclear weapons.
Speaking to the media, he said he does not consider Iran’s possession of ballistic missiles a problem, as long as the country does not develop nuclear weapons.
“If other countries have ballistic missiles, it’s kind of unfair that Iran doesn’t have some. A ballistic missile is not the same thing as a nuclear weapon,” the 80-year-old said.
The American leader also mentioned Saudi Arabia and Qatar, arguing that if other countries in the region possess such missiles, then it is acceptable for Iran to have a similar arsenal.
“If Saudi Arabia, Qatar and others have them, I think it’s appropriate, in proportion to the situation, for Iran to have some,” Trump said.
The American leader’s comments come on the eve of the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, which is expected to be formalized on Friday. /Telegraph/
