Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the Palestinian population will ultimately have to leave the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that there is no real solution for them without migration.
“In the end, there is no real solution for Gaza without migration,” he said at a conference organized by the Israeli media outlet Ynet.
The minister added that this moment “will certainly come when it becomes clear that Hamas is not fulfilling its obligations.”
“Then we will get the green light to advance militarily, territorially and in other areas, and this issue will gain momentum,” he stressed, referring directly to the departure of the Palestinian population from Gaza, writes france24 .
Katz claimed that “80 percent of residents want to migrate,” referring to polls that he said were constantly monitored. In May, Israeli media published the results of a survey conducted by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), a unit within the ministry headed by Katz.
According to this survey, nearly 80 percent of Gaza residents surveyed had expressed interest in receiving information on mechanisms for resettlement to a third country through the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings.
“We are fully prepared to remove them if this becomes possible: by sea, by air, by any means possible. Egypt is not prepared, so this will not be done through it,” Katz explained.
He added that countries that would potentially accept Palestinians require the support of the United States.
Katz stressed that US President Donald Trump “has not canceled this idea, but has frozen it,” after Arab countries approached him and exerted pressure. /Telegraph
