Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned airlines and international insurers that Russian airspace is becoming increasingly unsafe, saying the war launched by Moscow cannot remain limited to Ukrainian territory.
“Russia was the country from which the first missiles and drones came, which crossed the border of our country from Russian airspace. This escalation cannot and will not remain limited to Ukrainian territory,” he wrote on the X platform.
He called on all airlines using Russian airspace, insurance companies and operators using the country’s main airports to take the new risk seriously.
“Ukraine does not threaten civil aviation as such – no civilian aircraft. There will simply be drones in the skies of Russia on a scale that needs to be taken into account,” he declared.
According to the Ukrainian president, Russian authorities are not properly informing citizens about the danger. He warned that Russian airspace will in practice begin to close.
“The war launched by Russia is closing its skies,” Zelensky said.
He stressed that Ukraine does not want innocent lives to be lost and that is precisely why it is warning international partners.
“The days of safety in Russian skies are over,” the Ukrainian leader said, demanding that the warning be heard by ambassadors of countries accredited to Ukraine, as well as those working in Moscow.
Zelensky demanded that the information be forwarded to the governments of the relevant countries, specifically mentioning airlines currently flying to Moscow, St. Petersburg and other major destinations in Russia.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and other Ukrainian institutions, according to him, will provide international organizations with comprehensive information on the dangers in Russian airspace. /Telegraph/
