US President Donald Trump has floated an unusual idea for changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that it be called “Trump Strait”.
In a post on his social media, Trump wrote, “now that we have it under US control, should we change the name of the Strait of Hormuz to TRUMP STRAIT?”
The American leader accompanied the proposal with a humorous comment, saying that, like America itself, the strait would be “hotter than ever before.”
“Thank you for your attention to this matter,” the US president concluded.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important sea routes for transporting oil and gas, and any development that affects security and navigation in this area has direct consequences for global energy markets.
