New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has declared that he will not welcome Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the city, saying he is a person accused of crimes against humanity.
Mamdani said the US government has the option of joining the International Criminal Court (ICC) and implementing its arrest warrant against Netanyahu.
“It’s something I want to see happen. We’re talking about someone who has been accused of crimes against humanity, someone who has visited this city many times and who has been welcomed by previous mayors,” Mamdani declared.
He added that with his arrival at the helm of the city, this approach will change.
“I want to make it clear that this welcome ends with me. I will not welcome Netanyahu or any other war criminal when he comes to this city,” he said.
Mamdani’s statements come at a time when the war in Gaza and the actions of the Israeli government continue to be the subject of fierce international debate.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for several officials related to the situation in the Palestinian territories, a decision that has been opposed by Israel and its allies. /Telegraph/
